Degaussing

Degaussing is a method of data destruction that utilizes a strong electromagnetic field to effectively render a hard drive unreadable. Once the drive has been subjected to the degaussing process, it can no longer be used, sold or donated. The hard disk becomes worthless and in most cases, is then physically destroyed to maximize the security of the client and their customers.

For these types of industries, failure to effectively eliminate data from hard drives and other storage media when they are no longer being used, places both their clients and the company itself at tremendous risk. For the ultimate in security and confidentiality, hard drive degaussing followed by physical destruction of the drive is recommended.
